Stefano Pioli hailed the growing maturity of his Milan players in the absence of injured striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

The Rossoneri strengthened their grip on top spot in Serie A with a gritty 2-1 victory at Sampdoria on Sunday thanks to goals from Franck Kessie and Samu Castillejo.

Milan secured the win without talisman Ibrahimovic, who is nursing a hamstring injury but expected to return soon.

Valencia s Spanish international midfielder David Silva will undergo surgery on his injured left ankle on Tuesday, the first division club announced.

PSV secure Rekik loan deal

PSV Eindhoven have signed Karim Rekik on a season-long loan deal from Manchester City.

The 18-year-old defender has been with the former Premier League champions since 2011, but has been restricted to just three senior appearances and has instead spent time out on loan at Portsmouth and Blackburn.

Rekik will now continue his development in the Eredivisie and the young Dutchman is relishing the prospect of playing in his native Netherlands.

Salgado parts company with Real Madrid

Veteran Spanish international defender Michel Salgado is to part company with Real Madrid after ten years with the club, the Primera Liga giants said on Tuesday.

Real Madrid and Miguel Angel Salgado (Michel Salgado) have agreed to end their collaboration, the club said on its website.

The 33-year-old arrived at Real from Celta Vigo in 1999 and had a contract until 2011, but played little last season.

The announcement comes after the news that the club have agreed to buy Spanish midfielder Xabi Alonso from Liverpool.

Salgado won two Champions League titles with Real Madrid in 2000 and 2002, the Intercontinental Cup in 2002 and four Primera Liga titles in 2001, 2003, 2007 and 2008.
