Sao Paulo will seek Oscar compensation

The vice president of Sao Paulo said the club will not force playmaker Oscar to return to the club, but will seek compensation if he does not.

The player rescinded his contract with the club in 2009 because of a dispute over unpaid wages, and he joined Internacional on a free transfer the following year.

After a protracted legal battle, a Brazilian court has now ruled the player s previous deal with Sao Paulo remains valid and the midfielder has been ordered to rejoin his old club.

But Sao Paulo vice president Joao Paulo de Jesus Lopes said they will not force Oscar, 20, to do anything he does not want to do.

Our position must be consistent with what we presented in court, the official told Arena SporTV.

We wanted the contract re-activated to address all of the investments that were made in the player.

He is an exceptional player, we invested a lot into him and would like to enjoy the benefit of his football.

Now, this does not imply he is a slave and sports contracts have clauses.

If the player does not want to stay in Sao Paulo, he can just exercise one of the clauses, which is the termination the contract.

So, if he does not want to come, he will not come. He will just have to deposit the amount stated in the release clause.

Oscar, who has already been capped twice by Brazil, is considered one of the most exciting young players in South America and has previously been linked with a move to Barcelona.
